The best homemade burger sauce

The perfect burger with homemade sauce

I love a good hamburger, and fortunately, the rest of the family does too. When we have hamburgers on the menu at home, we usually serve them with crispy fries and a good homemade sauce.

For me, the sauce is what adds that final touch to the burger. A good mix of salt, tanginess, raw onions, and pickles provides a bit of crunch.

But what makes the perfect burger? The bun plays a big role; I think it should be a brioche bun, with a lovely buttery flavor that melts in your mouth!

The patty should preferably be grilled, medium-cooked, and juicy. A slice of cheese doesn’t hurt either; I usually add it to the patty at the end when grilling.

Raw or sautéed onions, a slice of tomato, a lettuce leaf, and the icing on the cake, the burger sauce.

Ingredient notes

Mayonnaise – Homemade or Hellmann’s. Choose the one you prefer.

Ketchup – I use Heinz. The ketchup contributes to the right flavor of the sauce.

Worcestershire Sauce – Adds a good spicy flavor.

Chili Sauce – Find one that suits your taste. It adds a bit of spice to the sauce, but it shouldn’t be too strong.

Mustard – Sweet French mustard or Dijon.

Pickles – They can be homemade or store-bought.

Capers and Onions – Provide good flavor, tanginess, sharpness, and a bit of texture, which is really delicious.

Garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika – These spices help achieve the perfect flavor.

Salt, pepper, and sugar – It’s important to season the sauce well. You’ll need to use salt, pepper, and sugar to balance the flavor perfectly.

How to make burger sauce?

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s so easy to make your very own burger sauce that you’ll never need to buy a pre-made one again.

You can adjust the quantities to suit your taste.

Start by finely chopping an onion, then chop the capers and pickles finely as well. In a bowl, mix the remaining ingredients, and add the chopped onions, capers, and pickles. Mix everything thoroughly and taste it, adding extra salt, pepper, and sugar if necessary. Put the burger sauce in a jar and refrigerate it until needed.
